Get to know Asheville Mobile Vet
At Asheville Mobile Vet, we take time getting to know our clients and patients in order to provide the best veterinary experience, free of judgement and haste, and full of knowledge and compassion.
Meet Dr. Cate Cowan, DVM
Why did you start Asheville Mobile Vet?
I wanted to give the people and pets of Asheville another locally owned option for vet care, where the focus is quality rather than quantity. The mobile model allows me to serve a smaller clientele with more thoughtful medicine and personalized care, and create meaningful relationships with my patients along the way.
Where did you go to vet school?
Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, DVM received May 2018.
When did you know you wanted to be a vet?
Second grade. The large animal vets from Virginia Tech came to check out my grandfather’s herd and Dr. Whittier let me don the plastic sleeve and stick my whole arm in a cow’s butt to feel for babies. From that moment, I was hooked! Decided pretty quickly that I was better suited to caring for cats and dogs, though.
What’s the weirdest pet you ever had?
In elementary school, I had a little white goat named Charlie. He acted just like a dog and I used to sneak him in my bedroom window to sleep next to my bed at night. We are also planning on adding a bearded dragon to the Cowan Crew this year!
Current pets?
Skeeter, a 10 year old sweet and sour little chihuahua mix, acquired during vet school.
Waffles, a 3 YO orange and white tabby who tumbled out of a car engine on Charlotte Street at 6 weeks old.
Rosalind, a 2 YO brown and white tabby found in a dumpster with a bot fly larvae in her neck at 4 weeks old.
What do you do when you’re not vetting?
All the typical Asheville stuff—listening to bluegrass music, exploring local restaurants, hiking, loosely supervising my children at breweries. I also very much enjoy shopping for eclectic/vintage clothing and accessories, dopamine decor, pilates and sporting an artsy manicure from Lucky Dice Nail Studio.
What advice do you commonly give, but not follow?
Brush your pets teeth every day!

For the highs and the lows of pet-ownership, we have been there, and we are with you every step of the way.
-

Collaboration
We are partners in your pet’s health and want to work alongside you to give them the best possible care.
There are so many reasons to call Asheville Mobile Vet! We want to partner with you if:
You have transportation or mobility limitations.
You have cats! It is a rare cat who enjoys being placed in a carrier and transported to the vet’s office. Now you don’t have to go through the trouble!
You have pets with debilitating motion sickness or travel anxiety.
You have a large or arthritic dog who is difficult to load in the car.
You have pets who are scared and reactive at the vet’s office.
You live in a multiple pet household and want to get everybody checked out and up to date on vaccines, etc. in one go, but couldn’t possibly get them all to the vet’s office at once.
You have an immunocompromised pet and don’t want to expose them to a swamped vet’s office full of sick patients.
You have a busy life and need the convenience of a vet that comes to you!
You want a completely different vet experience — one that is friendly, calm and un-rushed, in the comfort of your home.
